Clinical Psychologist in Wimbledon

Dr Angelene Gardner,

Clinical Psychologist at Wimbledon Psychology

I'm Angelene, a qualified Clinical Psychologist in Wimbledon with 10 years of experience in the NHS across adult mental health and family settings. I offer individual and couples therapy online and in Wimbledon. In-person appointments are in a clinic in central Wimbledon (40-44 The Broadway, SW19 1RQ), and home visits are available in Wimbledon (SW19) and across the Borough of Merton.

Many of the people I work with are high-functioning on the outside but struggling with anxiety, trauma, self-doubt, work stress, parenting pressures, or difficult relationship dynamics. Therapy can help you understand the roots of these patterns and build a more compassionate, empowered relationship with yourself.

As a Clinical Psychologist trained to the highest doctoral standard, I can help you make sense of your difficulties and support you in creating meaningful and lasting change. I offer a thoughtful, personalised approach to help you understand yourself better and feel more in control. I have specialist experience in supporting people in the following areas of difficulty:

Emotional wellbeing, identity & life transitions

I help with issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, self-criticism, perfectionism, low mood, burnout, and trauma. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches to help clients improve their mental health, live a life that brings them meaning, to process difficult experiences, and direct compassion towards themselves. Clients might want practical tools to support them in the 'here and now' as well as a deeper exploration of how their life experiences impact them in the present and how to make sense of these. I work to your timeline using a range of evidence-based and effective therapy models.

Pregnancy & early parenthood

I support mums, dads, partners and birthing people during pregnancy, postpartum, and throughout the early years of parenthood. I work with issues such as anxiety, low mood, parenting stress, birth trauma, and difficult birth experiences. Pregnancy and the early years of parenthood are some of the most challenging years within our lifetimes, and seeking therapy can be a helpful response for managing this transition. I am a published author in perinatal mental health and have also published guidance on supporting LGBTQ+ birthing people, working with neurodiverse clients and offering culturally sensitive therapy.

Couples & relationship dynamics

I support couples experiencing communication difficulties and conflict. Couples may be feeling disconnected, having regular arguments, and struggling to navigate issues such as emotional disconnection, infidelity, parenting differences and traumatic experiences. My therapeutic approach helps couples build emotional safety, share perspectives, and understand negative cycles. Couples learn new ways to communicate, show empathy, and strengthen the bond between them. I have experience supporting LGBTQ+ couples and my practice is inclusive of all sexualities and relationship styles.

I offer the following therapies:
